This is something of a “live action” post this morning. Writing on my phone with this very view in front of me.
Well, slightly further along the canal as I had to sit down (I can't walk and type).
I'm taking an “apricity moment”
Apricity being the enjoyment of a brief moment of winter sunshine. Turning my face up to it in order to enjoy it all the more.
This is part of my new philosophy of going out of my way to enjoy tiny moments, even if my fingers are really cold.
It's not exactly seizing the day - no one enjoys being seized after all - it sounds a bit unnecessary and aggressive.
It's more a snaffling of secret moments. Tiny bits of joy that probably no one else would understand. But that's OK because they don't need to.
This lovely canal side view is in Skipton, a former mill town and thriving market town in Yorkshire.
I can't tell you the number of times I've been here as it's only a few miles from where I grew up. School trips, shopping visits, taking my mum to a seemingly endless succession of little tea rooms.
But I've never, ever had the chance to walk along the canal side in a patch of early morning autumn sunshine.
But today I have.
And it was utterly magical.
A few moments that I genuinely think I'll remember for ever.
A few moments that were genuinely worth the 4.30am start (it's a pit stop en route to see my mum).
Although now I do need to go and find a coffee to thaw out my fingers.
Wishing you a moment of apricity today

It’s a great word! Liked. Restacked.
New word alert! I love the specificity of that concept! So evocative and universal.
