My post earlier this week about community really seemed to strike a chord, I don’t think I’ve ever had as many emails and comments on a post - well apart from the one about knitting and ageism.
The post is here in case you missed it
It’s clear that whatever else is going on in the social media world, people value connection and a sense of community, perhaps now even more than ever. Maybe it’s the aftermath of the pandemic, maybe it’s just a reflection of the general state of the world - that’s all a bit deep and way beyond the scope of my newsletter. But it’s made me profoundly grateful for the community that we have here and the fact that I get to reach out and connect with you on a weekly basis is something that I never take for granted.
This week I have had something of a crochet fixation, so apologies in advance for the lack of knitting content.
I finished my son’s Uni blanket - a double bed-sized simple striped blanket in colours he chose and I’m excited to pop down at the weekend to give it to him. I’m not going all that way just for a blanket though (I promise). By some strange quirk of fate my younger son is also interested in a course at the University that his brother is at, so we are doing a Uni open day visit. With the added advantage that I get to cuddle both my boys in one place.
As one crochet door closes it seems another one opens and I started another blanket almost by stealth. I found a few balls of Drops Karisma DK whilst stash rummaging and on a whim I decided to work up a few granny squares. I was really surprised at how quickly a 5-round granny square worked up. Previously I’ve only ever done squares changing colour on each round. Solid squares are so much faster.
Making me smile this week.
Reading: I’m really enjoying the yarny world of
by Jodie has a wealth of knowledge and experience which she shares so generously, and I love the fact that I meet so many other yarny folk through her writing.Watching: I seem to be re-watching the Shadow and Bone series on Netflix. I’ve no idea why but it feels comforting to watch right now.
Walking: I’ve been taking advantage of the cooler days and walking outside in nature much more. The changing colours on the trees are fabulous and so I’ve been choosing woodland walks wherever possible.
Enjoy your weekend and I hope to bring you a little more knitting content next week - just as soon as I have done a little bit more work on my crochet fixation.
Thank you so much for the shoutout Louise, I'm so glad you enjoy reading Fiber Friday! I'm so fortunate to be part of such a welcoming community. The fiber people here are so generous and kind.
The granny squares look beautiful in these autumn colors. I also recently crocheted a granny square blanket, and I am not much of a crocheter. Maybe it's something in the air?
