It’s that time of year again - when knitters are warm and snug - and maybe even a tiny bit smug.
Honestly, cold frosty mornings are just a joy.
Yes I know that defrosting the car is a pain, and having to kick the wheelie bin to free up a frozen lid is a bit annoying but the sheer joy of being able to ‘rug up’ as my Australian pal calls it never fails to fade.
Being able to reach into your wardrobe and pull out an array of warm and cosy items, specially made by you, to fit and in a colour that you love is something that always brings me pleasure.
As a Raynauds sufferer I always make sure to have a pair of fingerless mitts on, especially in the morning. Keeping the pulse points warm is essential and really helps to cut down on the dreaded numb white finger problems. I took this photo for a bit of a laugh - but when I’m working at home I often have a few layers on as our spare room (joking called my office) is absolutely freezing even with the radiators belting out.
Things that are keeping me warm this week
☕
has a beautiful new offering for December in the form of a digital self-care advent calendar. If you are feeling a bit harassed and put upon (and it’s not even December yet) then this is the one for you.☕I’m not normally a fan of hot chocolate - it can be a bit sickly for my tastes - but this time of year brings out my sweet tooth and this recipe really hit the spot this week.
☕I seem to have embarked on a bit of a gift knitting splurge - casting on socks for my husband in a Christmas yarn (Holly Berry) from West Yorkshire spinners as well as starting (and finishing) a baby Sockhead Hat for a colleague of my husband’s.
☕I had my first mince pie of the season and I’m not remotely sorry 🤣 If you aren’t in the UK and maybe not familiar with them - they are a sweet, fruit-filled small pie - not to be confused with mince as in meat. This explains it better than I can. They are delicious, I promise.
☕If you are in the UK and in need of yarn for all of this knitting there is a woolly event going on in Welwyn Garden City this week - culminating in a yarn festival on Sunday 19 Nov. I am planning to pop along so if you are going do let me know and maybe we could meet up?
If you are especially eagle eyed, you’ll notice that this last point about the yarn festival appeared in last weeks newsletter too. That’s because I got my weeks mixed up 🤣 and it is in fact this weekend.
15% discount on all my sock patterns
If you are quick I have a sock sale running on my website (and also on Ravelry) until 23 Nov. Just use code NOVSOCKS to apply the discount to as many sock patterns as you’d like.
Thanks for the mention! I had my first mince pie today! I am a connoisseur and can declare that of the shop bought, Greggs, surprisingly, are the best!
My Dad has a self imposed rule that you should only eat mince pies in December. As I'm a youngest child I rebel every year and eat them when I please! I had my first one last week, with Yorkshire clotted cream 😋
