Remember having a PenPal at school?

There’s something so lovely about getting real post—especially when it’s from someone who gets your love of yarn, colour, or the joy of a brand new notebook.

If the thought of pretty stationery, thoughtful letters, and a bit of quiet connection makes you smile, you’re going to love this...

✨ The Everyday Knitter PenPal Project is back for 2025!

Last year, over 30 brilliant women from 6 different countries joined in—and it was such a joy watching those envelopes travel around the world, filled with warm words, stories, and sometimes a little surprise or two.

This isn’t about writing the perfect letter. There’s no pressure, no homework—just the gentle magic of writing to a new friend (or two), sharing a bit of your everyday, and receiving something special in return.

And this year? Well… we’d love to welcome you into the circle. It’s small, friendly, and quietly wonderful. Don't miss out—sign-ups are open now and places will be limited so we can keep it cosy.

💌 Ready to join in?

The rules, if you can call them that are simple:

  • You need to be a paid member of the Everyday Knitter community here (details below)

  • Sign ups close on Monday May 19 and you’ll get an email shortly afterwards which will tell you whether you are a sender or a recipient*.

  • If you are a sender, you’ll be given a name and address and you’ll then send them a short hand written letter. It can be as personal, whimsical or down to earth as you like. It can be a postcard from where you live or a folded sheet of Basildon Bond (remember that?) The main thing is that it is written with care and love.

  • Recipients will wait to receive their letter and will then reply to that person in a similar vein.

  • You are under no obligation to continue the letter exchange after this short project concludes but obviously if you have made a PenPal friend I’d be thrilled if you carried on.

*you can specify whether you want to have a PenPal within your own country to keep costs down or whether you are happy to post anywhere.

If you are a paid member of the Everyday Knitter community please scroll down to access the sign up link. If you aren’t a member (yet) we’d love to welcome you in. You’ll also get access to my full archive here, to member-only chats, exclusive posts and snippets of my book-in-progress.
