It’s been a week when technology has not been my friend and I’ve learned the hard way that trying to multitask, while stressed is not the best way to operate.
Plates have been dropped and I’ve had to deal with the fact that I’ve had to disappoint some people, and say no to others.
Without wishing to sound like a cheesy politician however lessons have been learned - although it’s pretty annoying when your 18 year old son parrots back to you life advice that you’ve been giving him for these past few years.
I’m absolutely not a fan of Jeremy Clarkson, but on this topic he does appear to be spot on.
Anyway, moving swiftly on to more positive things - what have I been enjoying:
I’m reading Emma Gannon’s new book - The Success Myth and absolutely racing through it, highlighter at the ready. I love Emma’s writing (and her Ctrl Alt Delete podcast too). So much of what she says about the glorification of hustle culture and the myths that society perpetuates about what success is supposed to look and feel like are so true. It’s been a timely reminder about what a fallacy ‘having it all really is’ and the fact that when you see a successful person busy being successful online you don’t see the huge amount of work (often by other people) that’s going on in the background to keep them there.
Vegan Yarns - I’ve been intrigued about knitting socks with vegan yarn for a while now so I was thrilled to be sent a skein to play with. The lovely Adelle of VeganYarn sent me a skein of their Plieades eco sock yarn - a tencel, cotton, nylon mix. I haven’t knit much with cotton for socks so I’m excited to try it out this weekend. When you’ve knit a lot of socks it’s nice to try something completely different - the base feels very different to what I’m used to working with - so I’ll be doing a little swatch and washing/drying it later to see how it behaves.
Do you fancy another Summer of Books and Yarn? Last year the six week readalong/knitalong was a roaring success so I thought it might be fun to repeat it. Also, on a purely selfish level I have rather spectacularly fallen off my reading wagon this year and I need a bit of a boost. We still have a few weeks to go until the start of the summer holidays in my part of the world though - so I was aiming for a start date of 24 July. More details will be coming soon though, so please do watch this space.
If you enjoy the warm weather, I hope you have a lovely weekend. And if, like me you aren’t a fan I hope you have a lovely weekend too (just one spent indoors with a cooling breeze)
Happy knitting
You are a cool drink of water on a hot day. Thanks, from Texas, over 100 degrees today. Summer has arrived!
I would love to follow along with a summer of books and yarn. I won’t be able to knit this summer due to a very badly fractured right wrist (just had surgery for a plate installation) but it will be fun to live vicariously through others projects
