Welcome back to my slightly irregular “A coffee with…” series where I sit down for a metaphorical brew and a chat with someone I love spending time with.
I am really delighted to be able to share this interview with
of the Substack with you. Sarah is an absolute gem of a human being and I have been in her membership here for a little while. She’s a mindset and business coach who works with creative women and she runs an amazing community here.I’m currently enjoying taking part in her Selfish Bookclub - we are reading Playing Big by Tara Mohr and it’s proving to be something of revelation.
Anyway, I’ll hand you over to Sarah now so grab a coffee and let’s dive in.
1. It’s no secret that coffee is my favourite drink – what’s yours?
Ooh, tricky! I have different drinks for different times of the day. First drink is always a good strong builders tea. I have coffee after the school run and as I start to work. I really love a glass of water! I religiously drink camomile tea at bedtime. I don’t drink alcohol as a rule, so I drink a lot of water with meals too.
2. You have a spare half an hour in your day – how do you relax and ‘fill your cup’?
Spare half hours are often spent reading. I usually have 2-3 books on the go and I find the escapism of a good book very relaxing. I have proper books but also a Kindle and the Kindle app on my phone so I can read anytime anywhere! Or I might, if the weather is nice, just sit in the garden with a cuppa and listen to the birds.
3. Analogue or digital – when it comes to planners, diaries and journaling in general are you paper & pen or online?
I love a notebook and use them for journaling and note taking and planning. I have a digital calendar which all my coaching appointments and meetings pop into and they are on my phone too, I use Calendly to let people book in time with me, that’s about as high tech as I get. I do not use any fancy planning or productivity tools and things like Trello and Notion, I have no idea what they are really! I am a bit old school, I like using simple ideas like the pomodoro technique and a to do list to keep me on track.
4. What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading The Goddess Path by Kirsty Gallagher as I love a bit of woo and self discovery, Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey which is absolutely mind-blowing stuff really and has altered my thinking about the subject of rest (it’s so political!) and for some sheer escapism, I’m about to start The Figurine by Victoria Hislop after having just finished The Poison garden by LJ Ross.
5. What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
This is always such an interesting question! I’d love to sit my younger self down and give her a whole coaching session and a reams of advice but I guess if it were to be one thing it would be that failure is normal and part of success - don’t fear failure!
