I am a bit of an amateur photographer although missing my photography mojo a bit atm.
Reminded of the time in a local country park where I was standing watching a kingsfisher perched in a tree by the river, with my camera pointed at it. A woman came along the path and asked what I was photographing. I pointed out the kingfisher. Oooh, she said, Aren't they rare? Should we tell someone? I mentally envisaged dialing 999 and asking for Chris Packham, but suggested they weren't uncommon along this stretch of river. As if on cue, the kingfisher dived into the river and came up onto another branch with something in its beak. Well, said the woman, they do that on the telly! And walked off.
Ha, that's a fabulous story. I used to work with a chap who was a keen bird spotter and he always carried a pager (this was before mobile phones). I always expected him to get an urgent bleep and drop everything to go and see a rare bird, but he never did 🤣
My family laugh at me for it but honestly, the idea of running late makes me so stressed. I'd much rather be there in plenty of time and arrive relaxed.
Thanks for lifting the paywall on your piece truly beautiful.
Oh, I’m so pleased it made you smile. It felt like a good thing to share today 🧡

Thank you for the shout out, Louise! And those mitts are gorgeous.
Oh, thank you. I really appreciate that. And thanks for the article. It's been on my mind ever since I read it.
I have kingfisher envy. That’s a thing. Also “apricity” oufff…what a word xo
It's a good word to drop into casual conversation 🤣🤣
Lovely piece - and I'm delighted to find that I'm not the only person who thinks 10 mins early is late 😂
