My favourite yarn shop has had a Betwixtmas project for a number of years and there’s an online cast on today. I’ve cast on but I never finish the project by New Year. I take it as being ‘betwixt’ Christmas and Candlemas so that gives me until 2 February! I have a major operation in mid January so I’m keeping busy to take my mind of it. Sock knitting and a full Kindle will accompany in, due to be in between 3 & 7 days then no driving or swimming for 6 weeks. We’ll see how it goes. In the meantime, I’ll be icing the cake to the sound of Carols from Kings later today
Louise wishing you and your loved ones near and far a very healthy happy and restful holiday season!!
I was working on some new chunky yarn and it was driving me crazy ~ gauge was off ~ pattern did not work well with crazy colorful yarn I’d chosen so after 5 or so attempts I frogged the piece and set it aside. Knowing I’d need an easy no counting pattern for my upcoming travels I decided to grab a lovely purple yarn I had recently purchased and decided to make a simple shawl: co 3 it’s, kfb in first st k1, kfb in last stitch and each row I kfb at rows beginning then knit to last stitch and kfb in last st! It’s simple mindless and I always know where I left off ~ perfect for travel!! I also ordered a very neon rainbow yarn as my 3 year old old granddaughter asked me to knit her rainbow sox!! The yarn won’t arrive until I return from my travels but Shelly’s in a cruise so I’ll have them completed upon her return!!!
All in prepped and we now have Carols from King's. Bliss. Wishing you all your best version of Christmas. I may be looking at some potential cast ons...
About that Monopoly session. Older kid's family found that reading and actually following the directions to the letter, keeps the game sessions to less than 2 hours. I watched them do it when we last gathered. Very cut-throat. Lots of collaboration. Even the 10 year old had a chance to win.
I like the idea of quiet reading on Christmas eve, so dreamy! After the most wonderful introvert Christmas during the pandemic I decided not to partake this year and stay in my cosy den. It's the most important thing I could do in terms of Self-care. I wish you a merry and relaxing time! 🧶
Christmas eve cast on sounds lovely! This discussion inspired me to remember to pause and knit this evening, though I won't be casting on anything new (finishing a pair of socks for a dear friend).
Your day sounds lovely - apart from the kitchen cleaning part! I’ve been to my knitting group this morning, always good to sit and natter, and now I’m home, the stove is lit (I’m nesh*) and thinking about casting on. I bought myself Eden Cottage Yarns 12 Days of Winter set of minis and I’m going to make a FFS. I’ll knit until almost the end of one mini skein then use a clasp weft join to switch to the next. I’m looking forward to a large squishy shawl to snuggle in to in the New Year!
The Christmas Eve cast on sounds like a present to myself and something I would really like. I might have to start that tradition also, as it seems like a really wonderful act of self-care.
Have a lovely time, Louise. I shall be casting on a pair of yellow socks, and eating and lying on the sofa. The Christmas chis got opened last weekend (naughty) but there's plenty left!
You were my first paid subscriber, Lou, and I love you for it!
Bright blessings to you and yours for a wonderful New Year.
I've been knitting up some wash clothes with funky yarn that is sorta like terry cloth. Also a few kitchen scrubbies. Mindless knitting for me for now.
Hope you and your family had / are having a lovely holiday and doing all the year-end fun things. Ever since I heard about the Iceland tradition of book+chocolates, I have wanted to implement that. As well the Christmas eve cast-on. Hopefully next year. 🤞
I love that you do Jolabokaflod! I have seen this so much on social media this winter and think it sounds a beautiful way to welcome in Christmas. Sadly, I live with a non-book-lover and a seven month old! So instead I took advantage of the grandparents staying to read my book by the tree on Christmas Eve. Hope you had a wonderful Jolabokaflod 🥰

I always love the quiet time between Christmas and New Year. It feels so special.
oooh- love this idea. I‘m almost finished with a sweater so I may be able to squeak something in between new years eve and Candlemas

That shawl sounds perfect, I love a good travel project like that. I hope you have a lovely break
Thanx Louise wishing you the same.🌲

That's a good point. I think we need to be stricter sometimes 😅
Happy Christmas to you and yours, Louise. I’ll be starting socks and thinking of you!
Thank you. I hope you have a lovely relaxing day

Hooray for quiet times. Need now more than ever I think.

Oh, I have that set of mini skeins from ECY as well. I can't decide what to knit with them yet though
.*Nesh means cold blooded if you don’t hail from the East Midlands or northern England!

It feels like a lovely treat at the end of a long few weeks. I hope you have a lovely, relaxing break.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to more stacks, posts etc next year.
Thank you. I hope you have a lovely break
Lovely and clever little graphics. Art-girl. Happy ho-ho-alleluia to you and yours. 🧶
Thank you. It might have been better without the untoward typo 😅😅

I didn't really plan to cast-on, but I found a shawl pattern and already wound up yarn and, there I was, casting on and part of the group!
