Back in the days when I was a newer knitter I used to make a lot of gifts, but as with pretty much anything festive I have pared it back over the years to just the essentials.
I only knit for those who are flexible when it comes to deadlines and who wouldn’t be devastated if their handknit wasn’t gift-wrap ready on Christmas morning. They are just as happy with an IOU and the promise of warm woolly socks in the not too distant future.
That being said I have just started a beanie hat for my husband - the Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda - but' it’s more of a general winter project than a ‘must be finished’ Christmas project.
How about you? Is there anything festive on your needles or are you knitting for yourself this season?
I gave up knitting gifts in general years ago. I knit for pleasure. If what I make reminds me of another person, I might give it to them spontaneously.
I’m knitting just two presents this year - knitted fairy lights - requested by my 2 best friends when we met up at my local-ish yarn shop back in September. I’m gifting one set to a friend’s daughter as her Mum died unexpectedly in October. Her Mum was a skilled crocheter and her daughter is a skilled artist.
The woolly decorations will go to a good home and will be greatly appreciated.
