Thanks, Louise! Your timing on this subject couldn’t be better. I, too, am on a decluttering campaign in my house and appreciate your “finds” toward that effort. I understand there are TikTok-ers who have posted cleaning encouragement videos for those of us who benefit from having someone working alongside them as they tackle this daunting task so I’ll be exploring that virtual help as well. Off to clear a path to the closet!

Your description of the pared-back holiday cottage existence sounds heavenly! I've always been drawn to the minimalist aesthetic, but like you, I find it hard to maintain in everyday life. I'm intrigued by your search for decluttering solutions and the idea of finding a balance between functionality and beauty. The Ikea hack for a blanket ladder is brilliant – I might just have to try that myself! Thanks for sharing your journey and reminding us that even small steps towards decluttering can make a big difference.

You are very welcome.

I keep reading about the benefits of having a minimalist wardrobe and I can really see the advantages.

And don’t get me started on having uncluttered surfaces - that one is definitely a work in progress but I’m going to start small and aim to tackle a small area every day.

I’ve been away for a week and feel the same as you. I may join you in the declutter challenge. 😄

I think it’s partly the contrast between home where you have ‘everything’ and your carefully curated and minimal holiday existance.

Exactly. I also like the quality too. Sometimes, especially in the kitchen, we have the odd this and that, where everything is thoughtfully curated - as you said.

I’m on a decluttering campaign too. We are changing the storage in our lounge/dining room to a more streamlined look. Now why did I think it was a good idea to keep so many ‘best’ glasses in all types!

Ah, I’m the same. We have so many glasses and we use about 4 of them 🤣

You'll be busy but in a good way! The results of your decluttering adventures will be well worth it. I loved what you said here - But everywhere, there are signs of love too. Signs that make this house a home. :)

Having a declutterred space can feel soooo good! And I am familiar with the idea of buying things to put my things in lol…but it really is helpful way of creating a home for the things you intentionally choose to keep. 💖

I am always amazed at what I can do when company is unexpectedly going to arrive! The best is if they are coming tomorrow. I honestly don't know how it works, but suddenly I kick into gear and everything gets done! And I might even bake something while I am at it. I have tried to fool myself into this whirlwind performance by pretending a celebrity will be knocking at the door any minute. But, it is not the same as having a call from my landlord saying he will swing by in the morning to check the furnace! LOL Still, there is something magical that happens at these times. I only wish I could bottle it!

All of our knitted treasures around our house are the best aren’t they? They do make a house a home.
