Unapologetic Halloween enthusiast here (Halloween starts 1st September in my world 🤷♀️), with the caveat that it’s still 90* in South Texas, and will be until ~Thanksgiving. Hard to get into 🍂🍁fall 🍁🍂 when it’s still “tank tops and flip flops🩴” weather!
I’m with you on Halloween Louise, and came across a crazy stat recently, something like 2k tonnes of landfill created just in the uk from Halloween each year ) don’t quote me on the numbers, but they were shocking…
Samhain however, count me in. Having been squashed for centuries I’m all for going back to some of the original festivals and reconnecting to the seasons 🍂
I don’t know if I’ve ever done a KAL you know… autumn always makes me think of knitting more…
Aha! not so far away, just over the big hill :) my boy was at Burnley college so we got to know it a little the last couple of years :) If you’re ever up north visiting family or friends do look me up, we’ve even a wee cosy holiday lodge, just saying ;)
I am not a fan of Halloween 🎃- I think because it was not a thing when I grew up and I am not too keen on scary things. But I do think the Autumn 🍂 season is worth celebrating and have bought some lovely small decorative pumpkins for a seasonal table decoration - but made sure they are tasty edible ones as I hate all the waste of pumpkins not being used as food.
Because Texas has very southern roots, lots of people have issues with Halloween as in You are worshipping Satan! Kind of thing. I swear, some people suck the air out of everything and everyone. I just roll with it.
The plastication of all holidays must be resisted. And the hslloween stuff was in stores in september here, right after back to school shopping leveled off.
Exactly, I can't help but see it as a huge commercial push to get us to constantly buy more. Like you, I find the more it's pushed towards me the more I want to resist it.
I have a little knitted pumpkin garland - it’s so cute and goes above the fire this time of year til after Bonfire night. ✨ I hear you on things feeling too soon!
Louise, I’m not crazy about MKALs either. I can never keep up, nor do I want to spend time and money on something I might possibly hate afterward, as was the case last year. It got frogged. But I enjoy watching others’ enthusiasm and progress nonetheless.
Where I live (north Florida), autumn comes and goes too quickly. I enjoyed your post and appreciate the links you share. I’d love to knit the Fair Isle dress if only I could wear it more than once a year around here 🙂
My hubby's birthday is Oct 6. He says he does NOT have a Halloween birthday and could I please just have fall decorations up until after. My sister is Oct 8 and every year hopes some kind friend refrains from giving her a fall or Halloween decoration as a gift. She has enough pumpkin scented candles. (They were talking to each other about 10 years ago and lamenting that they loved an October birthday, but .......)

Oh Samhain is much more up my street. And that statistic about Halloween is truly frightening, just so much plastic 🤦
Aww, I’d invite you to my upcoming Samhain day retreat but I think you’re too far away to come to Lancashire for an afternoon… https://sarahlynas.co.uk/product/the-honouring-circle-saturday-28th-october/
One day I'd love to. And as an aside I didn't realise you were near Clitheroe. I grew up in Burnley!

I made that mistake with pumpkins once. I didn't realise that not all are grown for eating 🤦
I'm interested to learn more about the myth of Friday 13th and it's past history celebrating the power of the feminine. Thanks for sharing :)

Oh heavens, I didn't even think of that

I can't believe I don't have any knitted autumnal decisions 😂 I need to get cracking
They are so very cute! I bought them from Bramble and Fox. 🎃
All the holidays come earlier in the stores and it is crazy how it just comes out in early August for fall and Halloween items.
I love Friday the 13th and looked up the origin of how it started.
Also, that knitted dress is beautiful! That will be on my nevernending list of things I want to knit.

It probably won't surprise you that I'm fine with Halloween stuff coming out earlier. But Christmas stuff? That should wait a little longer. ;)
