And breathe…
This week, with it’s cooler air and streaming low-level morning sunlight has felt like a real breath of fresh air. A collective exhalation of relief. Both the nights and the early mornings are noticeably cooler now and all the more welcome after last week’s mugginess.
I am aware, looking back over my previous Friday posts just how many of them start with some reference to the weather. I contemplated changing it up, but honestly this is how I talk in real life. The British obsession with the weather is a national trait after all. It’s embedded deeply within us and no conversation however casual or formal is complete without at least a passing reference to it. This article summarises our national obsession wonderfully if you are looking for a little light reading.
So, it’s back on with the cosy socks and I’m making definite plans to get some more on the needles soon. The ones in the photo are my Rosthwaite socks and every time I wear them I always think I should knit more cabled socks. I do love a self stripe and an endless tube of smooth stocking stitch. But a nice, repetitive cable stitch pattern sooths the brain in an entirely different way.
Manipulating the fabric to turn, exactly where you want to turn it, exactly when you want to turn it never fails to feel just a little bit magical. And there’s such a sense of accomplishment at the end.
And if you mis-cross a cable here or there, well they’ll be hidden in your shoes and if anyone does happen to be close enough to spot it they’ll presumably have the good sense and know you well enough not to point it out.
Autumn Sale: This starts tomorrow but the discount is already applied to the Rosthwaite socks - just in case you did want to pick up a copy of the pattern. And if you want to make sure you get the link to the week long sale, just tap the link below.

Because of course what else does a self respecting knitter do when faced with a free half and hour and some seasonally appropriate yarn. I came across this free pattern on Threads the other day and immediately bookmarked it, ready for when the pumpkin knitting urge strikes.

Wishing you a happy autumnal weekend ahead.
We finally have substantial rain! Haven’t had this since June. From Texas!
Thank you for sharing the journal prompts, I also loved reading Mollys seasonal reading guide and generally getting excited for autumn and noticing the change in seasons.
