You can fortunately read all substacks via RSS, so I add the ones I want to keep up with (including yours) to Feedly where I read all my favorite blogs (and these days "newsletters") that I am interested in.
Feedly only shows what I have subscribed to and absolutely NO recommendations which I love. It's available as a website and an app as well, and in the app I have notifications turned of. I love it.
Tech things aside I too am trying to say ‘no’ more often, I realise I have become a people pleaser - usually because it feels like true line of least resistance - but it rarely benefits me. I think we need to embrace our inner toddlers, they don’t ever seem to have any problem saying no!
Ha! That made me smile - you are so right. I think toddlers often have the right idea. They nap when they are tired and sometimes just lie down in the supermarket when it’s all too much 🤣 I know how they feel.
I came across your Note about this post today and it really resonates with me. I've taken a huge step back from social media these last couple weeks and it feels great. I'm also finding freedom in unfollowing and muting accounts that don't serve me
Great advice, thanks for all of this. I’m trying to make most of my (admittedly tiny) house screen free and just having a ‘screen corner’ instead. It’s working so far.
What a lovely post, Louise. I, too, need to rethink how I use the Notes part of Substack, too much temptation for mindless scrolling... I do love the different publications that I subscribe to, though. And I love my no-screen corner. I have recently made some improvements to it. I have moved it to a place where there is more natural daylight and is near my plants. It is where I have my daily little think-tank and tarot-reflection. I think I need a blanket, too, though.... that will be my next improvement.
Yes! I set myself app limits for Substack and Instagram (the only social that I look at on my phone) but I keep just overriding the block and looking anyway! 🙈 thank you for the timely reminder. I need to exert some more self control and give myself a break! 💛✨
Has anybody else been getting message request from men you don’t know? I chose not to respond to them. Do they really think I’m going to say, “You’re the love of my life and here’s all my money?” 😹
Eww- no. Do you mean message requests here on Substack or on social media generally? I always just block them and delete the ones I do see (usually on Instagram)

Oh, that's great to know. Thank you

Exactly that!!

I think it's easy to fal into scrolling habits without really realising isn't it. A good reset strikes me as a healthy thing to do from time to time.
Analogue corner, I *love* this (and need it).
I’m setting up mine in slow stages - starting with removing all the chargers and electronic ‘gubbins’ from my favourite corner of the house.
I once saw phones called “an electronic leash “, and it’s very apt.
Oof - yes. It’s so true though. We are tethered to it in ways that I’m sure we wouldn’t accept from anything else.
As always this feels deeply intentional and calming, Louise. Taking notes xo
Oh, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it 🧡

That sounds like a great plan.

Substack and a couple are subscribers.
Subscribers? No, I haven't come across that but I would block and report them to the Substack team asap
