At the moment I’m carrying some very fine yak/silk and 2mm needles. Takes up almost no space/weight and is absorbing because I haven’t used such a delicate combo before
I once read some productivity tips from a business woman and she said one of the things she did every afternoon for a pick me up was to close her office door for a few minutes, put on handcream and give herself a few minutes of peace.
For a long while, an H or J hook was my go to. I loved the feel of Caron's Simply Soft (still do) and Lion Brand's Homespun yarn. I know a lot of people don't like the Homespun, but I guess I'm an anomaly in that I love it. Then, I put my hook and yarn down for a long time.
I'm finally returning to it with the intention of learning to create beautiful things. I still love my bigger hook, but I think I'm learning to love my F hook now. I using an E for my current project and I just don't like how it feels in my hand. But I'm committed to the project now with it.
Probably a full cone of Holst Supersoft and size 4.5mm (US 7) needle. I can double the yarn and make a whole sweater, or a shawl/scarf plus matching hat and mitts. I love the rustic quality of Supersoft a lot.
I travel a few times each year to visit family and that involves flying so I always need a compact project to take along. I love a simple garter stitch shawl/scarf pattern that I found years ago. I usually use sock yarn or even cotton to knit it. It can be small or large depending on how many rows you choose to knit. Very versatile. I want to make one soon with some llama yarn that my husband gifted me at Christmas. The pattern is the Half Moon Scarf by Roxanne Yelle on Ravelry.

Oh goodness, that sounds like heaven.
I have such rough hands though - do you have to use lots of handcream to avoid it catching?
I use hand cream a lot as a self-soothing thing. When I worked, I would put it on during meetings, though I got through more as others would join in!

That’s always stuck with me for some reason.

Circulars and sock yarn for definite. It's usually my go to when we go away.
Honestly, same! Lately I haven't been knitting shawls as much as I used to, but they're still the perfect travel knitting projects.
